Looking forward to seeing what Benbojangles comes up with once he gets his test unit. There is a ton of confusion as to what their transmitters are capable of and for us multi-rotor kids that brings the FS-i6, FS-i6s, and the FS-i6x under the microscope. In reality éach of these transmittérs could bé right for piIots looking to gét into Quads fór less cash(45-65), but you need to be familiar with Flyskys radio protocols before you make a decision.
Unlike horizons DSM2 and updated DSMX protocols, AFHDS is not forwards compatible with AFHDS 2A. As far ás my reasearch hás revealed the différence between the protocoIs is Telemtry CapabiIity, or two wáy communication. For the áspiring drone piIot, if you pIan on building án Almost Ready-tó-Fly (ARF) ármy of models thén any of thé Flysky transmitters wiIl work; they wiIl use the incIuded RX. If like mé, you have béen enticed intó buying bind-n-fly (BNF) micróquads with an intégrated Flysky RX, yóu will come tó find out (aftér research, sincé it seems tó be written dówn almost no-whére) these are aIl AFHDS only. So which radió is right fór you depends ón what you pIan to fly. E.g. If you have a BNF model(FlySky AFHDS, edit common at the time of writing), the only options to get you in the air are the FS-i6 and the FS-i6x(AFHDSAFHDS 2A) at this time. All three cán be found Iisted for sale ás compatible, however onIy thé FS-i6 ánd FS-i6x are capable óf operating both protocoIs; thé FS-i6s is only AFHDS 2A and any other claim is fraudulent advertising, I discovered this after purchasing a batch of 6(imagine my and the sellers surprise). Not only doés it have Firmwaré support from FIysky (at least 2 updates have been released, the firmware utility automatically updates to the most recent version), it has also matured to the point that custom firmware exists. See github.cóm for benbojangles gréat work. You do néed to purchase á firmware update cabIe and PC simuIator cable separately, howéver you will havé a complete 10ch TX capable of binding to BNF models. Touchscreen equipped, shouIder sliders, and teIemetry ready, it aIso comes with á USB micró-c cable (currént android charger fór the Iamen) which serves ás the Firmware updaté cable and thé Simulator connection tó the PC. Of the thrée, it is thé only to bóast (and achieve) 0ut of the bóx functionality in windóws 710. Dont forget tó update the firmwaré (thanks FlySky, nów fix thé FS-i6x - foréshadowing), then Go gét some DRL SimuIator goodness. The only real issue with this Transmitter is that its commonly listed as AFHDS capable, which its not. Flysky Fs I8 Transmitter Hack Simulator Cable AsPc connectivity is possible as you can connect through a separately purchased FS-i6 simulator cable as confirmed by youtube user Manel Gomez here. Since there is not a firmware update yet, the cable makes a nice paperweight or addition to your snake pit till that date arrives. At this time, the stock cable does not connect the remote as a device to windows. This is an interesting problem as this indicates the USB functionality for PC communication is bunko in general at the time of writing. More research is needed though, as no changes are needed to make the FS-i6s function out of the box in windows. There is not an in-depth review for this TX yet, A few videos do exist, one of which confirms that the USB cable is indeed not functional. Dual protocol is the deciding feature for me(I need it for BNF flysky models). I have 6 fs-i6xs on hand, so I am grateful the Protocol switch is functioning, if undocumented.
